Who We Are
The Greater El Paso Association of REALTORS® (GEPAR) was elected a member board of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) January 27, 1916. NAR is the largest trade association in America. The Texas Association of REALTORS® (TAR) was formed in 1920. The Greater El Paso Association of REALTORS® is one of the larger boards in the state.
Only members of these associations can use the term REALTORS®. The term REALTOR® is not a synonym for “real estate agent”. It is a distinctive and exclusive designation for those within the membership of the National Association of REALTORS®. The term connotes business competence and high standards of business conduct. Each member pledges to observe a strict Code of Ethics written by the NAR. The preamble calls for every REALTOR® to work for the preservation of the free enterprise system and the protection of private property rights.
GEPAR provides its members with the education they need to achieve the highest degree of professionalism in their fields. REALTORS® keep themselves informed on matters affecting real estate in their community, state and nation so that they can contribute responsibly to public policy. GEPAR monitors the legislation and public policy affecting the real estate industry. NAR keeps REALTORS® informed on decisions by the U.S. Congress.
The importance of cooperation among members in a competitive business is the basis of the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Members of the MLS provide and share information regarding properties they represent.
The members of the Greater El Paso Association of REALTORS® work for the protection of private property rights and to better serve the community in which they live.
